History

The event was established in 1904, and it was originally held at Chantilly. Its title refers to four large reservoirs on the Terrain des Aigles, which are used for watering Chantilly's racetrack. The event was originally open to two-year-olds of either gender, and its distance was initially set at 1,400 metres. It was shortened to 1,000 metres in 1906.

The Prix des Réservoirs was transferred to Longchamp in 1907, and at the same time its distance was changed to 1,100 metres. This was increased to 1,400 metres in 1911. The race was abandoned throughout World War I, with no running from 1914 to 1918. It was extended to 1,600 metres in 1931.

The event was cancelled three times during World War II, in 1939, 1940 and 1944. It was temporarily switched to Le Tremblay in 1942. It was cut to 1,400 metres in 1959, and to 1,300 metres in 1964. The race was not run in 1966, and its length was increased to 1,500 metres in 1968.

The present distance of the Prix des Réservoirs, 1,600 metres, was introduced in 1970. It was restricted to fillies in 1972, and it was given Group 3 status in 1976. The event continued to be staged at Longchamp until 1995. It was moved to its present venue, Deauville, in 1996.
